This book, A Brief Exposition of the Core Christian Doctrines, has brief content on the Apostles¡¯ Creed, the Lord¡¯s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments, each in four lectures. Each lecture is bundled into four steps: ¡°At a Glance - An Exposition - Understanding the Content - Application in Life.¡± Moreover, it is the actual content that the author taught seminarians in the Philippines, so this book will be a very practical help, especially for seminary students or anyone who wants to study Christian doctrines in English.

Do you have any experience of being moved by reciting the Apostles¡¯ Creed during public worship? Are you grateful for the fact that our confession of faith in it comes from the triune God? And have you ever been moved by the Lord¡¯s prayer? Do you really have hope for the kingdom of God? Also, are you actually conscious of God¡¯s presence as you read the Ten Commandments with all the church members? As covenant people, do we love God and really love our neighbors?
If you are a believer in Christ, you will often encounter and study the Apostles¡¯ Creed, the Lord¡¯s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. So these three things are very familiar to Christians. But ironically, the more familiar the content, the more often we miss its meaning.
So I decided to preach the Apostles¡¯ Creed, the Lord¡¯s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments to the church members. I wanted to make them ¡°listen¡± to those as the word of God at the pulpit. For this reason, I avoided excessive scholarly debate and preached in easy language from the viewpoint of Reformed theology. That is why I have frequently quoted several Reformation confessional documents, all of which are sourced from The Reformation Study Bible: English Standard Version (2015 Edition).
The content I preached over four weeks each became a manuscript and finally came out as a book. Originally, it was published in Korean in 2018-2019, one volume each. However, during this semester, I was lecturing in English to the students of Bohol Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The content was refined, supplemented, and published in one volume, A Brief Exposition of the Core Christian Doctrines.
The primary goal of this book is to make Christians ¡°listen¡± to the meaning of the Apostles¡¯ Creed, the Lord¡¯s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments as the word of God. Of course, the Apostles¡¯ Creed is not God¡¯s word, but I intend to make them realize that the content of our confession of faith in it comes from God. The Lord¡¯s Prayer and the Ten Commandments are the perfect words of God in themselves. And since this book approaches the reader by the paper, it will function as a sermon to be read rather than a sermon to be heard.
This book has brief content, so you can quickly grasp the core of the Apostles¡¯ Creed, the Lord¡¯s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. The whole process of learning is bundled into one set. All lectures consist of four steps: ¡°At a Glance - An Exposition - Understanding the Content - Application in Life.¡±
Moreover, A Brief Exposition of the Core Christian Doctrines will be a very practical help for preachers. This is because it contains the language of the pulpit as it is. In particular, it will be of great help in preparing the exposition if you examine each of the original texts in Appendix 1.
And unless otherwise noted, this book uses the NKJV Bible because of the text of the Lord¡¯s Prayer that contains the doxology (Matt. 6:13b). Of course, various translations were used throughout. The first letter of divine pronouns will be capitalized in my sentences, like in the New King James Version.
For the convenience of the reader, sample answers are also added in Appendix 2. I have compiled answers to the questions in Understanding the Content and Application in Life. The answers to Understanding the Content are the same as the book itself, but the answers to Application in Life are an application related to the author¡¯s daily life. With this in mind, I encourage you to come up with your own application.
Finally, I would like to thank CEO In-Gu Kang of Seum Books and his staff for publishing my lecture manuscript into a book. Most of all, I give profound thanks to Pastor Sam Ha (Ph.D. candidate, Calvin Theological Seminary) for writing the foreword. I also want to thank Sur Kim for reading the manuscript carefully and giving advice. I dedicate this book to my wife Mi-Ae Son, whom I love more than anyone, and my three sons. All glory to God!

BIBLIOGRAPHY 255
Who would need to read this book? I would say that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ would definitely benefit from this work. Pastors and teachers would learn a lot about how to teach other
believers. Ordinary believers can teach themselves while reading this book. Also, this book could be used as a textbook. You can read this book as a group and share your thoughts with one another.
