Expecting Leaders to Serve as Christ Did

Anyone serving in a leadership position at our church including the senior pastor, is required to wear a badge on their chest that reads, ¡°I shall serve like You, Lord¡± Even if it means serving one person, we serve and evangelize to them with love. We take good care of those we evangelize to and help settle them down in the church. To our congregation, we encourage for earnest love towards one another so as to fulfill the Lord¡¯s purpose. They are expected to engrave the deeds fulfilled by Christ on their chests and to put to practice what He did as they carry out their leadership.

When a church does not revive, it¡¯s not because there are no new comers to the church, but rather, I believe it¡¯s because those new members have not been taken care of. There is nothing more precious than serving people; to serve is to save lives. Thus every pastor and leaderis required to serve others like Christ, our exemplary model of servanthood. ¡°Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave¡ªjust as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many¡± (Matt. 20:26-28). Jesus served the human race to His death on the Cross. As a result of that death, all mankind received remission of sins ¡© saved from eternal punishment in hell.

Jesus Christ, with His very own flesh and blood, served us with His passionate death on the Cross. It was a generous act of love ¡© impossible for any man on earth to execute. Generations may come and go, but this great truth will remain unchanged for it¡¯s the greatest kind of leadership of all times ¡© a servant leadership. And only those who can kneel in awe before this amazing servanthood of love are considered true Christians. Therefore to serve with this very same heart of Jesus is the mission of a Christian. Don¡¯t forget that saving lives starts from you and that all leaders must bear the exact same mindset Christ had when he served us.

However, many leaders of the church today have sadly forgotten about Christ¡¯s servanthood. In fact, being in an authoritative position has disillusioned them into thinking that they can be lord over people¡© the very reason a church will never revive. We have seen numerous cases where hard working lay people change, as soon as they become ordained deacons, deaconesses, and elders ¡© enjoying their position at the head of the congregation. Many pastors have suffered because of these kinds of leaders at their church. So to solve this on going church issue we started a leadership seminar at Hindolsan Retreat Center. Twice a year, once in the summer and in the winter, we have held a leadership seminar to teach leaders what the Bible says about leadership and attitude. Through the seminar, we have worked on transforming these leaders into servants for their churchand congregation. It¡¯s now our 34th seminar already this year, and so far, we have seen many transformed leaders dedicated to their share of work. This has all been the work of God and I hope to continue to see the grace of God¡¯s work. I give all thanks and glory to God.

Furthermore, I am grateful for being able to collaborate all these years¡¯ worth of leadership sermons into this book and to have it published so that this special message can reach out to more people. I hope that many will read this book, ¡°I shall serve like You, Jesus¡± and become transformed into the very leaders God desires. But remember, just as there is a great reward for those who fulfill their duties, there will also be great judgment for those who do not. Therefore, as mentioned in this book, being in leadership is not easy for it is involves under going the hardships of Jesus. It¡¯s a narrow road that can only been dured when you lower yourself. Without this commitment of faith, the Word of God will only become a burden to you. But because God gave to believers the Holy Spirit, we can fulfill our duties with the inspiration, wisdom, and spiritual gifts the Spirit gives us. Thus, when we try our best to obey the Word of God in full faith, He will make history happen without limitations. He will mold us to become like Him and fill us with the love of the Lord so that we can serve the church and the congregation.

Each time a book gets published, I amalways cautious ¡© hoping that it willnot give out a boastful impression. But my only confession is that I am the Lord¡¯s futile servant whose only desire is to be used by Him. So I give all glory and praise to God who has led us through the entire process of this book until its final publication. Hallelujah!
